Biography

Darlene Winfield is an award winning artist whose art may be found in numerous private around the globe including Canada, the United States, Holland, Scotland China and Germany. Living abroad in Mexico, Indonesia and extended time in Europe, has helped Winfield develop her unique palette.

Winfield now works and resides in Peterborough, Ontario Canada with representation by several notable galleries. The four series of works represent a diversity usually focusing on each subject in a similar manner. The pond series for example blurs the lines between abstraction and impressionism with intense focus on a loose application of colour and dynamic compositions. The florals are intuitive and the brush strokes on the petals are exciting but softly rendered. The dynamic waterscapes are reminiscent of Monet’s time in England and create a vast misty vista to engage with. The landscapes are direct and strong.

While in Indonesia, Darlene volunteered with the United Nations and in every country she learned as much about their culture as she could. These experiences brought Darlene to a profound understanding of the world and our place in it. The chance to experience other cultures and their arts is invaluable to her painting. Always looking forward with hope and the ability to change the world for the better with the joy of art, is her mission.

Winfield captures the essence and nature of painting through her raw yet elegant brushwork, refined compositions and personal contemporary colour palette. The pond series remains a commentary on contemporary aesthetics, giving a fresh composed breath to the reflection of nature and humanities’ relationship with our environment. The contemporary painter has a duty to imbue imagination into the distracted mind of the post-modern audience. The intense brushwork and intimate compositions reveal a her energy and vision. Winfield’s unique brushwork remains a force of nature, the paintings are a requirement for the refined contemporary eye.
